1. Does the detention center provide group tours?: The Juvenile Detention Center does not provide tours of the facility to youth groups. However, on a case-by-case basis, detention staff will talk with youth about life in the detention facility. Community groups should contact the Detention Manager to request a tour of detention. Requests for tours are given careful consideration as to their impact on youth detained in the facility and may be denied.

2. Do the grades earned and attendance at the detention school transfer to my child’s community school?: All youth detained in the Juvenile Detention Center attend school daily and are given credit for attendance. The teachers at the Department of Juvenile Services are employed by the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, and the program is recognized by the other schools within other school systems within the parish.
