Baton Rouge, La. — January 6, 2020 — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and the MOVEBR Program Managers will host an open house meeting Monday, January 10, in partnership with Councilwoman Chauna Banks, BREC and the Center for Planning Excellence (CPEX) to share plans on projects that will improve the Scotlandville community.

The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m. at the Jewel J. Newman Community Center, 2013 Central Road. 

The MOVEBR program will provide exhibits and information on the Elm Grove Garden Sidewalks Project that will build new sidewalks on each side of Elm Grove Garden Drive from Blount Road to Rosenwald Road. This project proposes to enhance pedestrian mobility by constructing new sidewalks, providing ADA compliance and accommodating bus transit stops. 

BREC will provide information on the Scotlandville Parkway Master Plan, a project that spans approximately three miles from Airline to Scenic Highway and features a large park at the southern end and several smaller “pocket parks” along the length of the parkway. BREC has been conducting a public survey to identify which amenities community residents would like to include along the parkway. 

CPEX has been working on the Scotlandville Community Strategic Plan to guide future growth in Scotlandville and a plan to improve accessibility at the Jewel J. Newman Center. 

Scotlandville residents are invited to visit with project managers, planners and engineers one-on-one during the open house to learn more about these projects and planned improvements to the area. 

Face masks are required in all City-Parish buildings, including the Jewel J. Newman Community Center.
