BATON ROUGE, La. — April 29, 2021 — Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, State Senator Regina Barrow, BREC, and the Louisiana Workforce Commission announced today an upcoming COVID-19 vaccination site at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. This site will offer COVID-19 vaccines and a job fair for East Baton Rouge Parish youth.
Vaccines will be distributed on Saturday, May 1, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Youth in attendance will have the opportunity to apply in advance for summer employment opportunities with BREC. BREC is supplying door prizes for youth in attendance.
This site will administer Pfizer vaccines; Pfizer is approved for all residents age 16 and older.
“This vaccination site at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers is yet another tool in our fight against COVID-19; it is allowing us to bring our federally backed resources directly into our community,” said Mayor Broome. “I encourage our youth to use this opportunity to receive their vaccination and find valuable employment opportunities with BREC.”
Appointments can be made on site, at brla.gov/GetVaccinated.
“BREC is proud to sponsor this event as part of our mission to serve the community and get to a point where we can put the pandemic behind us and regain a sense of normalcy,” said BREC Superintendent Corey K. Wilson. “From providing COVID-19 testing at BREC sites to hosting a vaccination clinic at our administrative building and now sponsoring this opportunity, we take seriously our responsibility to make East Baton Rouge Parish a safer place to live, work and play.”
“We have businesses in our community that are looking to fill positions. There are residents who are looking to work. I am happy both businesses and individuals can connect to create a strong, healthy workforce in Baton Rouge while vaccinating and stopping the spread of COVID-19,” said State Senator Regina Barrow.
The COVID-19 Vaccination Site and Job Fair will be located at 8181 Tom Dr., Baton Rouge, LA 70815. This vaccination location is an extension of the federal Community Vaccination Center located at Bon Carre Business Center.
