Statement by Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome

BATON ROUGE, La. — April 27, 2021 — East Baton Rouge Parish has made considerable progress in our fight against the coronavirus pandemic since March of 2020. Now is not the time to let down our guard; we must continue to work together to end this pandemic.

Governor Edwards announced revisions to the current statewide mask mandate today, allowing local leaders to determine guidelines within their municipalities. To that end, the City-Parish will continue to require masks to be worn inside all City-Parish buildings, including City Hall, for the foreseeable future.

As we continue to assess and revise mitigation efforts, I am asking our citizens to follow CDC guidance for wearing masks. With the revisions to the current statewide mask mandate, it is important for our community to recognize the importance of receiving their COVID-19 vaccinations, especially those who work in areas where they have frequent interaction with the public. Receiving a vaccine is the best step we can take to help our community progress in our recovery from the coronavirus pandemic.

Masks will continue to be mandated for K-12 schools, colleges and universities, public transportation, state government buildings, and healthcare facilities accredited by the Louisiana Department of Health.
