Plank-Nicholson Bus Rapid Transit Project Launches Website

BATON ROUGE, La. – April 15, 2021 – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome has announced the Plank-Nicholson Bus Rapid Transit Project (BRT), connecting North and South Baton Rouge neighborhoods to jobs and services, now has a project website, www.batonrougebrt.com.

In its upcoming final design phase, the BRT project will merge with two MOVEBR projects on the bus route and be managed by the MOVEBR program, a move that can achieve greater efficiency and better position North Baton Rouge for other federal grant pursuits.

“The bus rapid transit route includes both Plank Road and Florida Boulevard, which are two corridor enhancement projects in our MOVEBR program,” Mayor Broome explained. “Now that we have secured full funding for this project, I am very pleased to announce Baton Rouge will provide Louisiana’s first bus rapid transit service.”

The BRT project will now move through design, permitting and construction. To keep the public informed and provide access to up-to-date information, a website has been launched at www.batonrougebrt.com and can also be accessed at www.movebr.brla.gov/brt

The website describes the project, its history, and introduces the partners for the project, including CATS, DOTD, Build Baton Rouge, and the MOVEBR Program. A route map and sketches of features special to BRT service are available for review. The many planning studies prepared for the project can also be downloaded from the site. The preliminary project schedule, information about funding, and an events calendar are also available on the website.
