COVID-19 Dashboard Tracks Pandemic Metrics in EBR Since March 2020

BATON ROUGE, La. — Tuesday, March 30, 2021 — In March 2020, the burgeoning COVID-19 pandemic necessitated widespread closures and quarantines.

The City-Parish’s Open Data BR team unveiled the COVID-19 Dashboard on March 18, 2020, only two weeks after data capture on the virus’ U.S. spread had begun. Since then, it has continually tracked COVID-19 statistics in East Baton Rouge Parish, with data sourced from the Louisiana Department of Health.

Updated weekly, the dashboard tracks metrics such as COVID-19 testing, positivity rate trends, deaths, availability of hospital resources like ventilators, and recently, vaccinations. The vaccine data are represented by a pie chart and table view to display the percentage of vaccinations initiated and completed, as compared to the total population in EBRP.

The most recent enhancements include an interactive map of the parish that shows two-week comparisons of COVID-19 cases in EBR Census tracts. Red-shaded tracts indicate an increase in cases, blue represents a decrease, and white represents no change.

The dashboard has had nearly 500,000 views in the past year. Explore the data here by clicking the arrows on the panels for related stats, including demographic breakdowns, and see how your neighborhood is trending in case counts by zooming in on the Census Tract map.
