[ARCHIVED] Nov. 3 Election Data Available in Map App

BATON ROUGE, La., Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 — The GIS Team has updated its Election Results app with the Nov. 3, 2020, national, state, and local election results. The East Baton Rouge Parish voting precincts map displays election results for primary, general, and runoff elections dating back to 2012.

Users can filter the map by selecting layers representing multiple elections and ballot items, though viewing one layer at a time is recommended. To filter by specific ballot items, click the arrow button next to an election’s date for a list of all the items, then check the desired results. Users can find their precinct by typing their address into the search tool at the upper left of the window. Clicking on a precinct will display a pop-up box detailing the specific number of voters for each candidate in that precinct; those data are displayed as a pie chart at the bottom of the box. If a user navigates from the page and then returns, their previous view can be restored by clicking the App State black pop-up box in the lower left corner of the window.

Precincts are color-coded to represent which candidate received the most votes; the Legend explains which colors signify which ballot options. The colors are not symbolic of political parties, but the hues correlate with how high the winner’s percentage was: the darker or more saturated the precinct’s color, the higher its percentage of voters for a given candidate or measure relative to other precincts.

The data behind the precinct maps is compiled from the Secretary of State’s election results database.
