Mayor Broome Announces Closure of City-Parish Buildings and Suspension of Garbage Collection Service

BATON ROUGE, La. – October 8, 2020 – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced today the closure of all City-Parish buildings — including City Hall and all community centers — on Friday, October 9, 2020, due to potential inclement weather from Hurricane Delta. City-Parish buildings will be restricted to essential personnel only.

The Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will enter partial activation on Thursday, October 9, at 5:00 p.m.

All garbage, trash and recycling services are suspended Friday for the City of Baton Rouge, the City of Central, and East Baton Rouge Parish. Residents should secure their bins close to their homes. The North Landfill will be closed Friday.

Collection services are tentatively scheduled to resume on Saturday, October 10, 2020. However, all services may also be suspended for Saturday if conditions are unsafe. Continuation will be determined Saturday morning.

The landfill will be open on Saturday for normal business hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
