Baton Rouge, La. – July 9, 2020 – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced a public-private partnership Thursday which will end the long term vacancy of the New Era Medical Office Complex at 7855 Howell Blvd.
Mayor Broome has worked with New Era Holdings, the facility’s owner, to organize and gather occupants for the 76,000-square-foot medical office building. Mayor Broome and New Era collaborated with the Metro Council to unanimously secure incentives to attract healthcare providers to the facility.
“For over two years, my administration and the community in North Baton Rouge have worked to solve the vacancy in this facility that has negatively affected Baton Rouge for 15 years,” said Mayor Broome. “It will be the new home to over 100 jobs, and will provide healthcare services to those needing behavioral health, eye care and primary care.”
Oceans Healthcare, Capital Area Human Services, Ochsner Health, and the Louisiana Center for Eyes will occupy the facility to provide care.
- Oceans Healthcare will provide inpatient hospital and group therapy outpatient services; Oceans Healthcare will create over 85 jobs within the area.
- Capital Area Human Services will provide community-based social and mental health services.
- Ochsner Health clinic will provide primary care services, and is expected to provide services to 10,000 patients within its first year of operation.
- Louisiana Center for Eyes will continue to provide ophthalmology care and retail services.
The commercialization of Howell Place will increase access to quality care in North Baton Rouge and is expected to create over 100 new jobs, in addition to driving commerce in the surrounding area.
