October 18, 2019 – Fifteen students received scholarships to attend River Parish Community College through EmployBR and will graduate with a certification and employment. The students were a part of a cohort formed through a partnership with BrandSafway, EmployBR and River Parish Community College. Classes began on October 7, and ended on October 17.
EmployBR receives federal funds to pay for training and other career services for those who are low income with barriers to employment. All of the students that participated in the cohort will graduate with a certification in scaffold building. Starting salaries range from $14-$17 an hour.
“This is another example of our career initiatives making a significant difference in the lives of our citizens,” said Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome. “Fifteen individuals now have meaningful careers thanks to efforts by this administration, in partnership with an area community college and a private business.”
BrandSafway, a global provider of specialty services to the industrial, commercial and infrastructure markets, has committed to offering positions to all of the graduates. BrandSafway plans to hire hundreds of qualified applicants over the next several months. Graduation is set for October 21, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. at 4523 Plank Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70805. Individuals interested in a career in scaffold building should contact EmployBR at (225) 358-4510 for more information.
