Input Sought on Amendments to Plan of Government

The Plan of Government Committee has completed its proposed amendments to the Plan of Government for the City-Parish of East Baton Rouge. Established two years ago, the committee has met monthly to revise and update the Plan of Government.

East Baton Rouge residents can review the proposed new Plan of Government here and compare it with the current version here. In the proposed plan, the existing language is edited, with crossed-out words to be deleted and underlined passages to be added.

One of the amendments in the proposed new Plan of Government would add two at-large seats to the Metro Council and decrease the number of single-representative council districts from 12 to 10. The at-large representatives would be elected by all EBR voters, and voters in each district would choose their district's council member.

Amendments will become law only after consideration by the Metro Council and approval by EBR voters. The public is invited to review the proposed amendments and give comments at the Aug. 14 Metro Council Meeting, where amendments for Sections 1-4 will be discussed. The Council will discuss remaining chapters to the Plan of Government at the Aug. 28 and Sept. 11 meetings.
