The Open Data team has published a dataset in Open Data BR compiling all the Baton Rouge Fire Department’s Occupancy Inspection records dating back to Jan. 1, 2000. These inspections are conducted by BRFD personnel to ensure that all commercial properties in the city of Baton Rouge meet fire-code requirements in order to obtain or retain their occupancy permits.
The information includes business name, full address, type of inspection, violations, and inspection completion dates. Types of inspections include annual, occupancy, construction review, and interior renovation. Datapoints also include a column for every address component for location precision, such as apartment units or multiple branches, and a geolocation for mapping.
This dataset is part of a transparency initiative by the Baton Rouge Fire Department, a Class 1-rated fire department for the over 40 years. More than 425,000 inspection records comprise this resource, and the data are automatically updated daily.
