BATON ROUGE, LA — April 26, 2019 — Today, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced the 2019 installments of Move with Mayor Broome, an initiative focused on improving the health of Baton Rouge residents through physical exercise. This year, Mayor Broome is partnering with BREC Parks and YMCA gyms throughout Baton Rouge.
Mayor Broome will also incorporate her newly adopted rescue pup, Mordecai, into her workouts for 2019. Known as Move with the Mayor and Mordecai, residents and their dogs are encouraged to join the mayor and her pup as they walk around local BREC dog parks. Non-dog owners are also welcome to join the walks.
At the YMCA, Mayor Broome will join popular group exercises classes at various locations beginning with YMCA Southside on May 6. YMCA members can expect to see the mayor in line dancing and Zumba classes this year.
“I am eager to continue my health journey and encourage residents to make physical activity a regular part of their lifestyles,” said Mayor Broome. “This new partnership with BREC and the YMCA will enable us to explore new and fun workouts with residents of all ages.”
