BATON ROUGE, LA — January 12, 2019 — Today, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced that HealthyBR will partner with Knock Knock Children’s Museum (KKCM) on a year-long partnership focused on promoting health in families.
Through her Healthy Cities Initiative, HealthyBR, Mayor Broome is proud to announce #LoveBatonRouge Saturdays. On the first Saturday of each month, experts from across our community will demonstrate how families can be healthy all year long.
To help promote these themes across the parish, KKCM and Mayor Broome will host a different school each month. Schools will compete for an opportunity to visit KKCM by embodying that month’s theme in their classrooms. Each selected school will receive 50 free passes to attend a #LoveBatonRouge Saturday at KKCM. Applications are available now through February 15 on the HealthyBR website: http://www.healthybr.com/be-active/family-kids/.
January: Texture and Textiles
April: Recycle It
May: Flora & Fauna
June: Space Odyssey
August: Circus Extravaganza
September: Construction Junction: Woodworking
October: Cardboard Challenge

In addition to #LoveBatonRouge Saturdays, HealthyBR and Pennington Biomedical’s Behavior Technology Laboratory will host Sisu & You on the fourth Thursday of each month through May. This 50-minute workshop embraces the power of Sisu — the Finnish term for resilience. Participants will learn to appreciate and care for their bodies using the components of health that science says have the biggest impact. Parents, teachers, and kids are all welcome to participate in this interactive workshop aimed at connecting ideas with actions for a lifetime of health and happiness.
The program is FREE for kids ages 5-11 and includes free admission to the museum with parent/caregiver participation required.
Registration for each program opens one month in advance. Note this is the same program so no repeat attendance please. Sign up required. Space Limited. To register, visit www.healthybr.com/events/SISU.
