BATON ROUGE, LA — January 24, 2019 — Following the recent announcement by Georgia-Pacific that 650 workers based at the Port Hudson plant would be laid off in the coming months, I immediately assembled a coalition of workforce partners to assist those individuals who would be seeking employment.
On Saturday, February 9, a job fair will be held at the Zachary High School Gymnasium. The event will feature employers who are hiring skilled workers as well as local training providers and career counselors. All affected employees have been notified and more than 143 local companies have expressed interest in participating.
I would like to thank our state and local workforce partners as well as the Zachary Community School System for their diligent efforts to assist our neighbors in Port Hudson during this time of transition. Louisiana Economic Development, the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, and Employ BR have worked hand-in-hand with executives at Georgia Pacific to provide every available resource to those affected by the layoffs.
This event is not open to the public or the media. The job fair will only be open to Georgia-Pacific employees with valid Georgia-Pacific identification. Employers interested in participating in the job fair may register here.
