Statement by Mayor-President Broome on Inclement Weather

BATON ROUGE, LA — December 27, 2018 — As parts of the Capitol Region deal with inclement weather, I encourage all citizens to stay tuned to their local media outlets for the most up-to-date information. Citizens are also encouraged to monitor and share posts on our Red Stick Ready social media pages for updated weather information and helpful preparedness tips.

Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness has been in close contact with the National Weather Service since Wednesday, monitoring weather conditions and advising of all weather reports. MOHSEP staff is also in contact with community partners and non-profits for any weather-related actions that may need to be taken.

Transportation & Drainage crews are responding to high water and barricade requests, and will continue working into the evening. Crews have been working to clear drainage canals and roadside culverts. Crews are stationed at maintenance lots throughout the parish to respond to downed trees and other needs.

Maintenance crews have proactively prepared sand and sandbags for pickup at BREC locations throughout the community. Citizens will be allowed access to these BREC facilities past 6 p.m. this evening. Click here to view all sandbag locations.
