Mayor Sharon Weston Broome's second installment of Operation Fresh Start is set for Saturday, October 6. The Saturday clean-up and beautification events will be followed by a week of City-Parish crews focusing on clearing trash, cutting grass, eliminating blight, and improving corridors throughout the parish.

Volunteers can join the following projects:

• Starhill Baptist Church: Eden Park Clean-up: Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at Starhill Baptist Church in the Fellowship Hall, 1400 N. Foster Drive, and will clean along Gus Young Avenue, 47th Street, 48th Street and 49th Street. Interested volunteers can contact Kelvin Cryer at kcryer@yahoo.com.

• The Walls Project: Winbourne Avenue Beautification: Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at the old Winbourne Avenue fire station, located at 4836 Winbourne Ave., and will be cleaning the surrounding community. • Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful: Gardere Initiative Clean-up. Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at 8618 GSRI Avenue, and will clean throughout the neighborhoods. Interested volunteers can contact Gwen Emick at emick4349@att.net.

Beginning on Monday, October 8, public works crews will begin conducting aggressive clean-up efforts across the parish, including clearing trash piles, cleaning blight, removing illegally dumped tires, mowing and other beautification activities.

Operation Fresh Start is a joint endeavor by Mayor Broome and the Baton Rouge Area Chamber, East Baton Rouge Department of Maintenance, East Baton Rouge Department of Development, Keep Baton Rouge Beautiful, Scotlandville Community Development Corporation, Starhill Baptist Church, and The Walls Project.

Operation Fresh Start kicked off in June 2018 and yielded the following results for the community:

• Removal of 400 trash and debris piles
• Removal of over 1,000 illegally dumped tires
• Removal of over 1,300 bags of litter
• 44 potholes filled
• Five trees cleared from the roadway
• Removal of 140 illegally placed signs
