Road Closures Dataset is Newest Resource in Open Data Portal

The Open Data BR team has released a Road Closures Dataset, comprising all recorded road closures by city-parish agencies since 2015. Updated daily with new information, this dataset includes the purpose for each closure, its locations and cross streets, date ranges, detour route, and directions indicating which lanes are blocked if the road closure is partial. A map tool displays all current closures or closures by type including Construction, Bridge, Emergency, or Other (special events such as parades).

One of the featured applications created using the dataset is Construction Road Closures, a line graph charting the number of construction closures each month over the past three years. Users can create an account and generate their own data visualizations based on their selected criteria.

The dataset can be used to analyze the frequency of closures on specific roads and the reasons for such closures. The Traffic Engineering Division of the Department of Transportation and Drainage is responsible for recording the closure data in the Geographic Information System.
