BATON ROUGE, LA — September 4, 2018 — Today, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced the Partial Activation of MOHSEP’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) beginning at 7:00 pm tonight (September 4, 2018) through 7:00 pm tomorrow evening (September 5, 2018). Representatives from each of the following agencies will report to the EOC to monitor weather conditions and impacts:
- Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD)
- Baton Rouge Fire Department (BRFD)
- Department of Public Works (DPW)
- East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office (EBRSO)
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
- Information Services (IS)
MOHSEP continues to monitor Tropical Storm Gordon as it moves inland. The National Weather Service has cancelled the Tropical Storm Warning for East Baton Rouge Parish. However, sustained high winds are still forecast for East Baton Rouge Parish. High winds could produce downed limbs and trees and possible power outages throughout the parish. At this time, rivers are not forecast to go above flood stage.
City-Parish crews will be on standby throughout the night to respond to reports of high water or downed trees. Residents are encouraged to report high water or fallen trees to the City-Parish 311 call center, which will be staffed throughout the night. Citizens can also use the "Red Stick 311"’ app from their mobile devices.
City-Parish offices are scheduled to operate under normal business hours tomorrow. Additionally, residential garbage and recycling will be collected as normal on Wednesday.
“While it appears our community will not be in the direct path of this storm system, we still want our citizens to remain vigilant,” said Mayor Broome. “Our first priority is always public safety. We encourage citizens to monitor the local news to stay aware of any high-water areas or trees that may fall into the roadway. Let’s all do our part to keep our community 'Red Stick Ready' as we prepare for Tropical Storm Gordon.”
