[ARCHIVED] BRFD, MOHSEP Responding to HazMat Incident on Airline Highway

BATON ROUGE, LA — July 30, 2018 — The Baton Rouge Fire Department Hazardous Materials Division (HazMat) Team responded to a call today at approximately 10:00 am regarding a tanker trunk venting Acrylamide Solution due to heat. The Baton Rouge Fire Department and Louisiana State Police are currently responding to the incident. The Baton Rouge Fire Department HazMat Team has deemed it necessary to evacuate the Once Around Mobile Home Park located at 4416 Victoria Drive and the surrounding areas.


This is an active incident and conditions are subject to change at any point. As of 2:00 pm today, there are no road closures due to this incident. However, drivers are urged to avoid this area. Mayor Broome stated, “Our first responders and stakeholders are actively working together to monitor this incident and make sure our citizens are safe and are provided with shelter until the situation is resolved.”


This is an ongoing event that may extend into the week. Affected residents were temporarily accommodated at the East Baton Rouge Parish Eden Park Library Branch. The American Red Cross has opened a shelter for affected residents at BREC’s Gus Young Park Recreation Center beginning at 3:00 pm today. The shelter will remain open for the duration of the incident.
