BATON ROUGE, LA — July 30, 2018 — Today, Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome announced the creation of Move with Mayor Broome, an initiative focused on improving the health of Baton Rouge residents through physical exercise.
Move with Mayor Broome, an initiative under HealthyBR, will promote more active lifestyles through various community-led walking and biking events. The events will be in partnership with organizations that seek to promote a culture of improving health throughout Baton Rouge.
“We all live busy lives; however, I have embarked upon a personal health journey and I encourage residents to join me,” said Mayor Broome. “I’ll be partnering with running and walking groups throughout the city to encourage residents to make physical activity a priority, and a regular part of their lifestyle.”
According to the American Heart Association, walking as little as 30 minutes a day can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by 40%. Throughout August and September, Mayor Broome will host exercise events in various locations within the city to promote healthier lifestyle habits. Residents of all ages are encouraged to join Mayor Broome.
Schedule of Events:
- August 4 – Back to School Bash
- August 18 – Move with a Doc
- September 6 – Capital Heights Bike Ride
- September 11 – Happy’s Running Club
- September 15 – Fitness Rocks
