[ARCHIVED] Open Data Adds Records of Street Name Changes Dating Back to 1857

Open Data BR now enables users to research a dataset called EBRP Street Name Changes. The records, dating back to 1857, include the parish streets' old and new names, the year of each change, and the roadways' limits (either the entirety of the street, or the cross-streets delimiting the new street, if available).

Over many hours of research, the data were taken from books recording the minutes of government meetings in which the names were approved. The tables include the minute book's number and page number where each street change is recorded, and the governing body (e.g., Parish Council, Metro Council, the state) that passed it.

This new tool is part of the city-parish's ongoing efforts to enhance transparency by publishing government records online in an organized, searchable format. For more information on East Baton Rouge's statistics past and present, visit and explore Open Data BR.
