BATON ROUGE, LA — May 1, 2018 — The Office of Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, Division of Human Development and Services, and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Program will partner with the East Baton Rouge Parish School System to host the 2018 Youth Explosion on Saturday, May 12, 2018. The event will be held at the Marriott Hotel located at 5500 Hilton Avenue, Baton Rouge, LA 70808, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Youth Explosion will offer young people between the ages of 14 to 24 the opportunity to connect with employers, resources, and post-secondary education/training to help them prepare for and obtain gainful employment. During the event, local employers will conduct interviews for possible hiring, and WIOA staff will accept applications for its 2018 Summer Youth Employment Program.
Applications for the WIOA Summer Youth Employment program will only be accepted at the Youth Explosion on Saturday, May 12 and on Monday, May 14 and Tuesday, May 15 at the McKinley Alumni Center, 1520 Thomas H. Delpit Drive. The WIOA youth program primarily targets out-of-school, at-risk youth by assisting with career and educational development. The program serves a limited number of in-school youth and provides year-round services. WIOA summer youth job opportunities are in addition to the Mayor’s Summer Youth Employment Program.
