Mayor Broome's Statement on River Center Library Work

BATON ROUGE, LA — April 23, 2018 — Today, the WHLC design team provided my administration with an update regarding the River Center Branch Library. We learned that large equipment will be required to complete the remedial work on the building. As a result, we have decided to expand the closed area surrounding the construction site to include North Boulevard Town Square and the Galvez Plaza Stage. Starting Wednesday, April 25, St. Louis Street at its intersection with North Boulevard will close. The City-Parish will temporarily make St. Louis Street between Government Street and City Hall a two-way street.

City Hall, the 19th Judicial District Courthouse, and the surrounding businesses along North Boulevard will remain open. We are working with the Downtown Development District on contingency plans for all events scheduled for this week and weekend. A complete report and analysis from the structural engineers regarding the River Center Branch Library is expected by the end of the week.
