Baton Rouge, La. — August 9, 2023 — The City-Parish’s Department of Environmental Services is reminding residents of upcoming changes to the solid waste collection services provided to East Baton Rouge Parish residents, excluding residents in the cities of Baker and Zachary.
Under the City-Parish’s contract for garbage, trash, and recycling collection, the monthly solid waste collection fee covers twice-a-week garbage collection for one garbage cart per household, along with once-a-week collections for recycling and out-of-cart trash.
Beginning September 1, residents with extra garbage carts will be charged $7 per month, per cart. The charge will be included in the household’s monthly solid waste, sewer, and water fee bill.
Residents who request the return of their extra cart(s) by August 17 will not be charged the additional fee. Residents can request the return of their extra cart(s) at any time by visiting brla.gov/extracart; collection fees will be reduced to reflect the number of carts in service once extra carts are returned.
Residents who previously paid for an extra cart or carts will still be charged the monthly per-cart fee if they choose to keep the extra cart(s). If residents paid for their extra cart(s) on or after September 1, 2022, they will receive a refund if the extra cart or carts are returned.
Residents with extra garbage carts should visit brla.gov/extracart to complete the short questionnaire about their intentions to keep or return any extra carts.
