New Engines and Equipment for Baton Rouge Fire Department

BATON ROUGE, La. – March 16, 2023 – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome and Baton Rouge Fire Chief Michael Kimble announced today more than $4 million in new engines and equipment for the Baton Rouge Fire Department. The equipment is already in use across several fire stations in Baton Rouge, and was purchased using the American Rescue Plan Act with the approval of the Metropolitan Council.

“I dedicated funding from the American Rescue Plan to address pressing needs in public safety and infrastructure in East Baton Rouge Parish. The purchase of this critical equipment will help our Class 1 Baton Rouge Fire Department serve the citizens of our city at moment’s notice,” said Mayor Broome.

The new equipment includes five 2022 Ferrara Inferno Custom Top Mount Pumper Engines, with 1500-gallon-per-minute pumps, to be utilized at Fire Stations 1, 2, 3, 12 and 13. The total cost of the five new fire engines is $2,940,742. Additionally, 230 Scott X3 Self-Contained Breathing Apparatuses have been purchased at a cost of $1,698,466. The new air packs are lighter weight, with improved safety features and lower maintenance costs.
