Baton Rouge, LA – September 8, 2022 – Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome is proud to announce that Doctor Dan Godbee, the East Baton Rouge Parish Medical Director for EBR Emergency Medical Services, has been named Medical Director of the Year by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians.
“Dr. Dan Godbee has tirelessly served his country and community for 44 years. This honor is well deserved to someone who has dedicated their life to serve others,” said Mayor Broome.
“Dr. Godbee always strives for perfection and the best clinical values,” said Michael Denicola, Director of EBR Emergency Medical Services. "He is very open and communicates often with all of our paramedics. We are very proud of him. His professionalism and passion is an inspiration to all public servants."
Dr. Godbee began as an Eagle Scout, enlisted as a private in the United States Army and rose to the rank of sergeant major. He then accepted a commission as a physician and worked his way up to the rank of Colonel. He is a Green Beret with numerous deployments as both a physician and a fighter.
Dr. Godbee is a mechanical engineer and an emergency physician. As Medical Director, he is the only physician employed by East Baton Rouge Parish. Dr. Godbee has been instrumental during the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing vaccines and mitigation efforts.
Dr. Godbee is never far from the front line, yet comfortable briefing General Officers in the Army or elected officials and journalists in his hometown. He dives, parachutes, and performs every other adventurous task with his soldiers in the Army and his law enforcement, fire, and EMS crews in civilian life.
The City-Parish and EBR Emergency Medical Services are very proud that Dr. Godbee is being honored for Medical Director of the Year.
