Reduce Mosquito Bites
To reduce the chances of being bitten by mosquitoes:
- Try to avoid outdoor activity during the early morning and evening hours when mosquitoes are most active.
- If possible, wear long sleeves and pants. Avoid dark colors.
- Use an insect repellent with the active ingredient DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide). The Center for Disease Control has specific recommendations on repellents.
Prevent Rodent Problems
To help prevent rodent problems:
- Seal any openings around water lines, electrical lines, etc. on the outside of your house.
- Eliminate vegetation that overhangs or comes into contact with the roof.
- Repair any openings in the exterior of the home including gaps under doors and windows.
- Feed your pets only as much as they will consume at one time. Avoid leaving food in pet dishes.
- Use caution in using bird feeders around your residence as the seed can be a food source for rats and mice.
