In 2016, the Department of Environmental Services (DES) created a school outreach program to reach the students and teachers across East Baton Rouge Parish. The objectives of this program include:
Promote cooperation, shared resources, and the exchange of expertise and services between Department of Environmental Services and adopted schools
Provide students with the opportunity to relate their studies to experience outside the school environment
Improve student academic outcomes by providing experiential, project-based learning activities
Create awareness and understanding of the opportunities available to work together towards a common goal
Encourage high self-esteem in students through presentation skills
Acknowledge and support teachers
Strengthen Department of Environmental Services’ involvement in and commitment to the community

This program is spearheaded by a committee of 12 Department of Environmental Services employees that represent various departments, backgrounds, and skill sets — all sharing a common passion for educating Baton Rouge’s youngest citizens:
