School Outreach Program

Objectives

In 2016, the Department of Environmental Services (DES) created a school outreach program to reach the students and teachers across East Baton Rouge Parish. The objectives of this program include:

  • Promote cooperation, shared resources, and the exchange of expertise and services between Department of Environmental Services and adopted schools
  • Provide students with the opportunity to relate their studies to experience outside the school environment
  • Improve student academic outcomes by providing experiential, project-based learning activities
  • Create awareness and understanding of the opportunities available to work together towards a common goal
  • Encourage high self-esteem in students through presentation skills
  • Acknowledge and support teachers
  • Strengthen Department of Environmental Services’ involvement in and commitment to the community

This program is spearheaded by a committee of 12 Department of Environmental Services employees that represent various departments, backgrounds, and skill sets — all sharing a common passion for educating Baton Rouge’s youngest citizens:
