  • The CDC is responding to an outbreak of a respiratory disease caused by a novel (new) coronavirus that was first detected in China.
  • Symptoms are similar to the flu including fever, cough, and difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • Most cases are mild and there is a low mortality rate.

  • People who think they may have been exposed to the virus should contact their healthcare provider immediately.
  • If you have trouble breathing, please call 9-1-1! 


People can help protect themselves from this respiratory illness with everyday preventive actions. 

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick. 
  • Wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water.
  • Use at least 60% alcohol based handsanitizer. 
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
