KNOW THE RISK

East Baton Rouge Parish is vulnerable to a wide range of potential hazards. While natural disasters cannot be prevented from occurring, the continued implementation of mitigation will gradually, but steadily, make the community more sustainable and disaster-resilient.

As the risk landscape for East Baton Rouge Parish evolves to include new and worsening threats, The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness continues to adapt and advance emergency planning, training, and exercise programs to enhance the Parish’s ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from these novel challenges.

ALWAYS BE ALERT

Timely and accurate messaging is essential to preparing the public before, during, and after a disaster. The Red Stick Ready platform is utilized to provide emergency preparedness education to strengthen the community. The Red Stick Ready campaign teaches residents how to prepare for emergencies, and The Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness strives to continue building trust with local communities by incorporating non-traditional and culturally appropriate communication channels into the agency’s outreach strategy.
