The Animal Control and Rescue Center (ACRC) has a public health and safety function and essentially protects people from animals and animals from people.
Partnership ACRC & CAA
The Animal Control and Rescue Center partners with the Companion Animal Alliance of Baton Rouge (CAA), 2550 Gourrier Ave. For all sheltering, adoptions, and animal reclamation, call 225-408-5360. The shelter is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
Services
The ACRC investigates and resolves citizens' complaints about animals; it resolves animal-related situations; and it enforces city-parish codes pertaining to animals. Rescued, seized or impounded animals are transported to the animal shelter. The ACRC services domestics, livestock, exotics, and wildlife animals.
The Companion Animal Alliance performs all animal sheltering, adoptions, rescue, fostering & euthanasia services. Animals are received from citizens and ACRC Officers. The shelter building and facilities are shared with the ACRC.
Pet Holding Period
An amendment to the Animal Control Ordinance, effective January 25, 2012, changed the holding period for dogs and cats to three days for an unidentified animal and five days for an animal wearing or having any form of identification. View the Animal Control Ordinance.
Animal Control Officer Hours
Animal control officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for emergencies.
