Residential Solid Waste User Fee Assistance Program
The monthly residential Solid Waste User Fee has increased since 2008 from $15.50 to $23.00. The new rate of $23.00 became effective on January 1, 2018. The City-Parish implemented a Residential Solid Waste User Fee Assistance Program in 2008 for low-income residents. Residents who meet federal eligibility requirements for energy assistance can receive a monthly discount of $4.50 on the solid waste user fee.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Office of Social Services has the availability of funds dedicated to assist eligible low-income households with their energy payments. All applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis according to the names on the waiting list. To be placed on the waiting list for assistance, please call the nearest Office of Social Services location. Applications are taken by appointment only.
An eligible household is one whose total income is at or below the levels listed in the table below. Applicants must provide, at a minimum, the following documentation at the time the application is taken:
- Copies of each household member’s social security card.
- Proof of income of all household members age 18 or older.
- A copy of an energy bill (must be within the last six months).
- A photo I.D. of the applicant.
- At least one other document was mailed to the applicant at the service address indicated on the energy bill and which lists the same address as the service address on the energy bill.
If it is determined that additional documentation is required, the applicant will be notified at the time of application. Households reporting zero income must provide additional documentation. All information provided with the application is subject to verification. Intentional misrepresentation of information may result in the criminal prosecution of the applicant and anyone assisting in the misrepresentation.
Certification of eligibility is good for a 12-month period for the Solid Waste Assistance Program. Residents must reapply each year.
