About Red Stick Ready Day
To better prepare the citizens we serve, the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) hosted Red Stick Ready Day 2018 on July 14, 2018 at the Mall of Louisiana. By partnering with multiple agencies throughout the Parish, this event served as an opportunity to share important public safety information to the citizens of East Baton Rouge Parish. Each year, Red Stick Ready Day also offers representatives of these agencies an opportunity to become familiar and better inform the citizens we serve during emergency response efforts.
Red Stick Ready Day
The East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) will host their Annual Red Stick Ready Day at the Mall of Louisiana on Saturday, July 14th, 2018 from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
“Baton Rouge” is French for “Red Stick” and being “Red Stick Ready” means having the necessary plans and items in place in order to be prepared for all hazards. Red Stick Ready Day provides a unique opportunity for citizens to interact with emergency response personnel. Informational booths will be set up throughout areas of the Mall of Louisiana for the public to visit and receive essential emergency preparedness handouts and information. Citizens will learn how to create an emergency communication plan, what items are needed to build a disaster supply kit, and how to be better prepared for any and all disasters in East Baton Rouge Parish.
Hurricane Awareness Day
Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome, the Mayor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP), and the National Weather Service (NWS) team up with East Baton Rouge Parish first responders to prepare the community for the 2018 Hurricane Season. During the “2018 Hurricane Awareness Tour”, citizens were given the opportunity to interact with the first responders that are here to keep them safe during emergencies. This year, the NOAA- NWS Hurricane Hunter Pilots were in attendance and offered tours of the NOAA – G-IV Aircraft & Air Force WC-130J
