Junior Community Emergency Response Team (JR CERT)
Junior Community Emergency Response Team (JR CERT)
During the summer, The East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (MOHSEP) offers a Junior Community Emergency Response Team (JR. CERT) program that teaches children in grades 1-6 how they can prepare for disasters. Campers come to the East Baton Rouge Parish Emergency Operations Center (EOC) where they learn how to prepare for disasters and/or emergencies from various East Baton Rouge Parish first responders. JR. CERT campers interact with East Baton Rouge Parish first-responding agencies, including but not limited to MOHSEP, Baton Rouge Fire Department, St. George Fire Department, Baton Rouge Police Department, Emergency Medical Services, WAFB, and Mosquito Abatement and Rodent Control. The emergency planning information campers learn at JR. CERT can be passed onto their families, friends, schools, and communities.
