The Fire Prevention Committee is composed of residents throughout the City of Baton Rouge and is a support organization of the Baton Rouge Fire Department. Its goal is to educate the general public in fire prevention and fire safety techniques, and to honor and recognize those members of the Baton Rouge Fire Department who have made an outstanding contribution in serving the citizens of Baton Rouge. Additionally, this committee sponsors a poster contest each year during National Fire Prevention Week.
Baton Rouge Exchange Club co-sponsors the poster contest. Each year, the committee sponsors a poster contest, and the winners are awarded cash prizes and plaques of recognition for their school at the banquet.
This contest enables our Baton Rouge Fire Safety personnel to interact with elementary-age children throughout the City of Baton Rouge, educating them in fire safety and prevention. The children are able to express their ideas on fire safety with creative art.
Participation
We would like to ask area elementary schools to consider having their students grades kindergarten-5th participate in this year’s poster contest.
Each school that participates in the contest needs to select a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner from each grade that participates. Your school then submits to the Fire Prevention Committee the 1st place winners only. These posters are combined with other schools' 1st place winners for final judging by the committee. The committee picks a winner from each grade level for a total of six winners. These six overall winners are invited to the Annual Fire Prevention Banquet.
